Bask in the serene beauty of the Symphony of Light by Carson Cooman and music by Norway’s greatest composer, Edvard Grieg, including his beloved Holberg Suite and the dramatic Quartet in g minor, arranged for string orchestra.
Carson Cooman (b. 1982) is an American composer with a catalog of hundreds of works in many forms—from solo instrumental pieces to operas, and from orchestral works to hymn tunes. His music has been performed on all six inhabited continents in venues that range from the stage of Carnegie Hall to the basket of a hot air balloon. We launched our 2023-2024 season with the world premiere of Robert Edward Smith’s Introduction and Theme with Variations for English horn and strings with the extraordinary Andrew van der Paardt as soloist. Other works included the virtuosic Symphonie Concertante Op. 13, by Joseph Boulogne, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Mendelssohn’s energetic Sinfonia no. 4, Webern’s luminous Langsamer Satz and Britten’s charming Simple Symphony.
